Team Bio-Hazard Receive Funding Boost

Friday 15th May 2009 - Team Bio-Hazard, the Apprentice Class National Champions in the F1 in Schools Challenge from Menai State High School received a visit from NSW Premier Nathan Rees MP with an unexpected gift.

Upon hearing of their winning achievement at the National Final last year in Canberra, Premier Rees presented the team with a cheque of $5,500 to assist in their preparations to attend the World Championships in London later this year.

Local Member for Menai, Ms Alison Megarrity MP heard of Bio-Hazard's achievements and approached the team through a parent asking if she could be of assistance. The initial request for obtaining Australian and State flags as part of their World Championship campaign was escalated further when Ms Megarrity was able to raise the issue with the Premier's office. The resulting funding was an unexpected but extremely appreciative windfall for the team.

Premier Rees and Ms Megarrity enjoyed a morning of exploring the achievements of team Bio-Hazard and came to understand the program and technologies involved further as the students explained their F1 in Schools project work and raced the cars down the track. The Bio-Hazard team will be travelling with RedLine Racing to the UK in September as they represent Australia at the World Championships. Australia's spectacularly impressive track record at this event, including 2006 World Championship Winners, (and apprentice team) The Stingers, means they are in good company as they prepare their project work and fast cars to take on the world.
